Vortex Single Prop
Bow Thruster |
Pleasure Craft & Light Duty Commercial Vessels with limited space, or when lower cost is
desired.
(Bow or Stern use) |
The
single prop Vortex bow thruster works well when there is too
little space for a dual prop thruster, or when a lower cost
alternative is desired. It can be easily upgraded to
dual prop later without removing the thruster from the boat! AC,
DC, Hydraulic or Direct Drive |
Vortex Dual Prop
Bow Thruster |
Best Thruster for Pleasure Craft & Light Duty Commercial Vessels from 38 to
165+
feet. (Bow or Stern use) |
WESMAR invented the revolutionary counter-rotating dual prop
thruster in the early 90's, producing 40% more thrust per
input HP! The power, control, and ease of retrofits make this
the bow thruster of choice. AC, DC, Hydraulic or Direct Drive |
Vortex Heavy Duty Dual Prop |
Perfect for LARGE Pleasure Craft and Commercial Vessels
requiring up to 350 HP bow thrusters! (Bow or Stern use) |
Versions 200 and 350 both have the
WESMAR counter-rotating dual prop
design for 40% more thrust! V-200 is for up to 200 HP
applications with 24-26 inch props for better tube location.
V-350 uses 40 inch props for up to 350 HP! AC, DC, Hydraulic or Direct Drive |
Heavy Duty Commercial Marine Bow Thruster |
Commercial marine vessels from 50' to 300'+ when brute power and
precise control is a MUST!
(Bow or Stern Use) |
The
Heavy Duty Commercial Marine Bow Thruster is the ultimate in
brute strength and precise control. This thruster is for the
most demanding conditions, from maneuvering in crowded harbors
to maintaining position in violent open seas. Electric, Hydraulic
& Direct Drive. |

There seems
to be a lot of misinformation these days when it comes to the single
prop vs. dual prop question. As you might expect,
some competitors who only offer single prop thrusters may use slick, sometimes even deceptive "spin" to make it seem that
"single prop"
is the only way to go. We guess it just makes sense since that's all they sell
or maybe have the technology to produce.
WESMAR on
the other hand has long been an innovator, not a copier. WESMAR
invented the revolutionary counter-rotating dual prop design in the early 1990's,
and since then several competitors have tried to copy it. So the
question that must be asked is, "Why are they copying it if it isn't a
better design?" The answer is simple, it is!
Two solid
reasons why the counter-rotating dual
prop design is better:
-
When a single prop is used, a lot of the energy is lost in the
"swirling" motion of the water. However, when a second prop spinning in
the opposite direction is used, the swirling water is redirected back
into straight-line thrust, effectively recapturing and refocusing
that otherwise lost energy into real, useable thrust.
-
Another
advantage of the more efficient counter-rotating dual prop design is
that smaller props and tunnels can be used to produce the same
thrust.
This allows the tunnel to be placed lower and more
forward in the hull (on new installs). With better
tunnel position, increased
turning leverage and more precise control can be achieved.
The Bottom Line . .
. Tests have proven 40% more thrust per input horsepower with WESMAR's
innovative dual prop bow thruster!
WESMAR created a one-of-a-kind world-class testing lab to
develop the most powerful thrusters possible. By testing each design for power, prop size, pitch, clearance
and configuration, WESMAR is able to
offer bow thrusters that are optimized to provide the most power possible in a given size.

While others
talk about how much power their bow thrusters make, WESMAR is actually
testing, optimizing and proving it . . . how many other companies can say that!? Single prop versions are still available
from WESMAR for situations when space does not permit a dual prop, or for the economy minded boat
owner, but the WESMAR counter-rotating dual prop bow thruster IS the thruster
of choice for serious boat owners!
